We understand that the transition to Higher Education can feel daunting. We want this exciting period in your life to go as smoothly as possible, and for you to get the most out of your time at the Royal College of Music.

What to expect at the RCM 

In this section, you will find some helpful guidance on what to expect during your time at the RCM. 

Your studies 

Studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level at a Conservatoire can be both thrilling and challenging. You will have a varied and busy timetable, including the following:

  • Academic classes and seminars
  • Faculty classes
  • Principal study lessons
  • Masterclasses
  • Rehearsals and performances

We want you to be able to benefit fully from all the many exciting learning, development and performance opportunities on offer here at the RCM. This means the following:

  • Attending scheduled lessons and classes 
  • Being punctual
  • Committing to meeting deadlines
  • Committing to full participation in your studies, project work and rehearsals
  • Communicating any issues or difficulties in a timely manner so that we can offer support

Support for you at the RCM

There is lots of support available to our students via Student Services so do reach out if you need to. We have a free counselling service and provide lots of resources and activities to support your mental health and wellbeing, such as free yoga and mediation sessions and access to Togetherall, a 24/7 online peer support community.

You will not be alone during your time here, and you can also access help and guidance via the following:

  • your Personal Advisor (Undergraduates only)
  • Heads of Faculty and Heads of Programme
  • Teaching staff
  • Library staff
  • Reception staff
  • The Registry team
  • Our trained Mental Health First Aiders
  • The Student Union
